Ciara recently went public about how her 2004 debut single “Goodies” was almost given to Britney Spears.

The Texas-born singer-songwriter recently started a radio show called “Level Up Radio with Ciara” which is available for streaming on Apple Music. In the first episode, the singer revealed how her hit track was almost a Britney Spears song.

The multiplatinum hit “Goodies” was released by Ciara in 2004. At the time, Spears was already a star and had released many hits, while Ciara shared in her radio show that she was asked to re-audition at Jive Records so they would make her a priority. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, there was talk about giving the song to someone like Spears.

Ciara didn’t find out until later, but said if she knew that this was happening under her nose at the time she would have “fought tooth and nail.” She explains how she had a part in creating and writing the record, which is why she was so invested in the song.

When the popular song was released it spent seven weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, which easily became the longest-running number-one debut single by a female artist in 30 years.

For the young singer, this was a dream come true. In fact, at her high school graduation, someone asked her where she sees herself a year from now, where she answered “I see myself having a No. 1 song on a Billboard chart.”

Her inspiring story allows other girls to look up to her and bet on their dreams because they could also come true. I think we are all glad that the record label decided to go with Ciara because “Goodies” is still an amazing song. You can listen to the iconic track here.
