Regina King Will Make Directorial Debut with ‘One Night in Miami’
Emmy and Oscar-winner Regina King will be making her directorial debut with the film adaptation of the play, One Night in Miami.
After her incredible win for If Beale Street Could Talk as best supporting actress and the overwhelming amount of praise for Watchmen, it seemed as though there was nothing else King could do. However, she has proved herself unstoppable as she is ready to release One Night in Miami.

The film is to release on September 7 at the Venice Film Festival. Amazon was quick to get ahold of the film last month. However, the trailer for the film is yet to come out, which has fans full of anticipation.

One Night in Miami, written by Kemp Powers, debuted as a play in 2013. Powers creates a fictional account of a pivotal encounter on February 25, 1964. Historical icons Cassius Clay aka Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown all gather together to discuss their roles in the civil rights movement of the 60s. As hoped, Powers came in as a screenwriter for the adaptation.

King’s adaptation comes in at a particularly timely moment as we witness the civil rights movement continue. Powers and King are ready to bring to the big screen, the impact these black American icons had on generations of people. With stars such as Eli Goree (Muhammad Ali), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Malcolm X), Leslie Odom Jr. (Sam Cooke), and Aldis Hodge (Jim Brown), the film is sure to do justice to these iconic men in history.
