Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett Tie for ‘Entertainer of the Year’ at ACM Awards
The Academy of Country Music Awards ended in a tie last night for Entertainer of the Year.
For the first time in ACM history, the award show ended in a tie last night for Entertainer of the Year.
The 55th Academy of Country Music Awards took place on Wednesday on CBS from three different locations in Nashville, Tennessee. The night was full of many firsts.
Carrie Underwood and Thomas Rhett will share the biggest award of the night. The host of the awards, Keith Urban, said this has “got to be a first” in ACM history. Urban opened the envelope and exclaimed, “We have a tie!” This was Underwood’s third win for this award, tying her with Taylor Swift as the women with the most wins in this category.
Fans were stunned and mostly disappointed to see the award show’s result.
How lucky are we! This year we have not one, but TWO winners for Entertainer of the Year. Congratulations to @ThomasRhett and @CarrieUnderwood! #ACMawards pic.twitter.com/txKWXIiwmW

Upon receiving her award after Rhett, Underwood said, “2020 man!”
“Thank you to the ACM for not just this but for putting me in incredible company,” she added. “I’m more than happy to share this with Thomas Rhett.” She continued by thanking all of the crew and fans for helping make live performances possible before COVID-19.
Although Underwood gladly accepted the award, many country music fans did not accept this decision.

Many country music fans are seeing this as a gender issue. Fans on Twitter claim this is a sexist decision, in which Underwood has to share the award with a man.
Seriously?!? “What are you gonna tell her?”… When you can’t have Entertainer of the year by yourself… and it needs to be shared with a man. Y’all know nobody compares to @carrieunderwood right now!

However, there was a handful of people who were happy to see both of their favorite artists receive the award.
In all seriousness, congrats to @ThomasRhett as well. He has always seemed like a kind, genuine guy. @carrieunderwood and @ThomasRhett always make sure to give God the glory and tonight they both won.
