Bad Bunny Shuts Down the Streets of NYC for His Virtual Concert

DAILY POP/NBC

Reggaeton star Bad Bunny hosted a virtual concert on Monday as he drove through the streets of New York City on a personalized truck.

Last week Bad Bunny announced he would be having a live virtual concert in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, and fans couldn’t hold their excitement. This year, he released two successful albums YHLQMDLG and the surprise quarantine album Las Que No Iban a Salir, and fans have been dying to hear them live.

When fans tuned in to watch the Puerto Rican rapper’s virtual concert, they did not expect to see him performing on the top of a truck slowly driving through The Bronx, which is known for its high Puerto Rican and Dominican populations.

Bad Bunny opened with his song “BENDICIONES,” which translates to “BLESSINGS” in English, a fitting song to uplift people’s spirits during the current pandemic, as many are unsure and losing hope for the future.

Fans couldn’t get enough of the performance, as “Bad Bunny” and “Benito,” Bad Bunny’s real name, was trending on Twitter for hours. Many felt that the concert was everything they needed until they’re able to enjoy live shows again.

The show included surprise virtual performances from big names in Latin music like Colombian star J Balvin, who performed “LA CANCIÓN,” his song from OASIS, his recent collab album with Bad Bunny. Sech and Mora also joined for “Ignorantes” and “Una Vez,” both off of YHLQMDLG.

Word travels fast with social media, and it wasn’t long before fans were seen chasing the truck on foot, bikes, and scooters. The concert lasted for over two hours, and it ended parked in front of Harlem Hospital for his popular single “Yo Perreo Sola.” Fans and hospital staff gathered outside of the hospital wearing masks and waving the Puerto Rican flag as they enjoyed the free show.

The virtual show ended up being even better than expected. Fans are grateful that Bad Bunny provided them with an unforgettable experience during such a difficult time for so many. We all hope that by this time next year, we will be able to see our favorite artists in person again.
