Barbie Is Bringing Back Yara Shahidi’s Vote-Themed Doll for 2020 Election

With only a little over a month until Election Day, Barbie is bringing back actress Yara Shahidi’s voting-themed doll to inspire young people to vote.

Barbie

The unique doll wears a gray power suit paired with a Tory Burch “Vote” t-shirt, which is the same one Shahidi wore to a We Vote Next summit last year. The doll also comes with a QR code that links to voter registration. It was originally released in 2019 as a part of Mattel’s Shero program, which was launched in 2015.

The Grown-ish star’s doll is part of Barbie’s Role Model series that sheds light on notable women in the world and was timed for release on National Voter Registration Day, which was September 22.

The aim of the doll is to empower the next generation of voters to stand up for what they believe in, emphasize the importance of using one’s voice at every age, and to show young voters how they hold the power to help shape a better future.

“As a brand dedicated to inspiring the limitless potential in every girl, Barbie honors diverse role models to show the next generation how they can reach their full potential,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president and global head of Barbie and Dolls, Mattel.

McKnight continues, “By encouraging girls to stand up for what they believe in and to learn about participating in civic duty, we want to pique their interest in seeing themselves in leadership roles from the polls to the podium. By honoring Yara Shahidi with her own Barbie doll, we hope her story will encourage girls to raise their voices to champion positive change for a brighter future.”

You can pre-order the Yara Shahidi Barbie Shero Doll here, which will be available to ship on October 9, 2020.

Shahidi’s doll gives a powerful and important message to young women about their right to vote; Mattel is sending a crucial message at a critical time in our nation’s history that we hope young people everywhere will hear.
