Black Widow’s stand-alone film will focus on Natasha Romanoff’s life following the events that took place in Captain America: Civil War. According to Marvel Entertainment, the film will focus on Romanoff as she combats pursuance “by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down” and her confrontation with “her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”
Scarlett Johansson is reprising her role as Romanoff and the film will welcome new characters played by Florence Pugh (Little Women), Rachel Weisz (The Favourite), and David Harbour (Stranger Things). Cate Shortland directed the film with the screenplay written by Eric Pearson, the writer behind Thor: Ragnarok and ABC’s Agent Carter.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in March, Johansson revealed her fascination with the exploration of Romanoff’s past.
“I thought it was interesting to explore this part of her life before she rejoins the Avengers, before she makes that ultimate sacrifice,” Johansson said. “How does she become this full person from all these broken pieces?”
Fans, who have been eagerly awaiting the release, have taken to Twitter to share their reactions to the delay.
