Brandon Leake Is Crowned ‘America’s Got Talent’ Champion
On Wednesday, September 23 Brandon Leake was named the winner of Season 15 America’s Got Talent.
Leake, originally from Stockton, CA, drove down and auditioned in Los Angeles for America’s Got Talent. However, his journey to the stage was difficult. He wrote on Instagram that he came home after work let his wife get a 2-hour nap and then left Stockton around 8 pm or so. On the drive, his car broke down on the grapevine incline into LA. Leake stopped and prayed just hoping to make it. He got into LA at like 3 am with an 8 am call time. Slept for 4 hours and went to go do the recording and had 2 or 3 shut down scares for that day.
Leake’s journey paid off because that same day he was awarded Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer. With this Leake was able to move past all of the auditions and go straight to the live shows as the first-ever spoken word artist on America’s Got Talent.

With months of preparation for the poems he was going to share with the world, there were things that Leake didn’t expect. “What I couldn’t prepare for was the emotional rush that came right before I stepped on stage. I knew the poem like the back of my hand, I knew the performance beats like clockwork, but I wasn’t sure how the world would respond to it. The idea of a young black man speaking about such a timely subject in such an interpersonal manner. I knew the world needed to hear it, but the overflow of love that came out of it,” said Leake on Instagram.
Congratulations @Called_To_Move for winning #AGT this year!!! An amazing poet whose words moved me and all the rest of you. Well done 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
