Yara Shahidi Will Be Playing Tinkerbell in Upcoming Peter Pan Live-Action Movie
Yara Shahidi is set to play the iconic role of Tinkerbell in Disney’s live-action Peter Pan movie.
Disney continues to make strides in diversity by casting the Grown-ish actress to play the beloved character, Tinkerbell, in the upcoming live-action film Peter Pan and Wendy.
Shahidi posted on her Instagram earlier today to announce her newest role.
Shahidi will star along with Jude Law, who will play Captain Hook, Alexander Molonycast as Peter Pan, and Ever Anderson as Wendy. The film will be directed by David Lowery and produced by Jim Whitaker.
Having an impressive resume, Shahidi is clearly fit for such an important role. Complex summed up her success, stating, “Shahidi is known for playing the character Zoey from ABC’s Black-ish, which later got its own spinoff series, Grown-ish. She’s also signed to ABC Studios for an overall deal. As for films, she recently starred in the adaptation of The Sun is Also a Star with Charles Melton.”
According to an article by Deadline, “This would mark the first time a person of color has filled the role that traditionally has featured a white actress and follows in the footsteps after Disney set Halle Bailey to play Ariel in The Little Mermaid.”
Fans have been raving over the news, many taking to Twitter to express their excitement.

We are thrilled to see Shahidi take on this role and serve as a positive representation for POC all over the world. Furthermore, we also hope that Disney continues to increase diversity in the media they produce.
