Spotify and Chernin Entertainment Team up To Turn Podcasts Into TV Shows and Movies
Spotify plans on adapting their original podcasts into TV shows and movies.
We have seen several forms of reworks, whether it’s books to movies/television shows, films into books, or even music that has been changed to a different form of media. Now podcasts are getting their own “remix,” and we aren’t quite sure what to expect.
Podcasts have been popular since 2004, and haven’t stopped trending since. They are much easier to make compared to films and can tell a story before committing to expensive funding and production. One of the platforms known for their podcasts and music is Spotify. Some of their popular podcasts are Son of a Hitman, Ear Hustle and Stuff You Should Know.
Spotify has announced a partnership with Chernin Entertainment, known for its production of Hidden Figures, New Girl, and Rise of the Planets of the Apes. Chernin Entertainment is an American film and television production company founded in 2009.

The partnership consists of Chernin getting first dibs on developing pitches around Spotify. Spotify podcast library consists of more than 250 original shows from which Chernin can work off.
Chernin, Spotify, and Pineapple Street Media are collaborating on a TV adaptation of The Clearing. Recently Gimlet Media, now owned by Spotify, turned its show Homecoming into a Prime Video original series.
Interesting deal. Are these going to stream on Spotify’s App? Is it going to become music + video?? https://t.co/SkF8Z70Mjs

We still aren’t sure where the videos will be streamed or if the Spotify app will feature them. The deal has brought mixed feelings after all; podcasts are mostly used to listen in the go. Many are concerned with how the transition will turn out. A positive thing about adapting podcasts is opening the doors to a non-podcast listener audience.
