The movie will be about two young adults, Sloane (Roberts) and Jackson (Bracey) who meet near the holiday season. They are both single and cannot stand the holidays, along with showing up to family functions single and alone. They decide to make a pact to attend each other’s holiday plans for the year. They both learn that throughout the year of lies, Sloane and Jackson enjoy all the things they used to hate. By being together they find a mutual and unexpected love.

Roberts has expressed her excitement for the movie and its release. “I’ve been obsessed with romantic comedies ever since I was a kid, and I feel like they don’t really make enough of them anymore,” Roberts says to Slanted. “When I read this one, I just thought it was so charming, so sweet, and it also covers every holiday throughout the year, which I thought was so fun. I love rom-coms where the whole family gets involved and hilarious disasters ensue.”
The producer of the movie, Mary Viola, commented on Roberts’ role in the film. “We needed Sloane to be someone you’d root for, and Emma’s very, very easy to root for, even when she’s playing a character who’s a little bit of a mess,” Viola says. “She was definitely able to channel some of the Sloane energy and make her chaotic in a very fun and sympathetic way.”
Be sure to add this film to your holiday watchlist. Holidate will begin streaming October 28 on Netflix.
