The Serum Institute of India, reportedly the largest vaccine-producing organization, has claimed that it will produce 100 million coronavirus vaccine doses for India and other low-income nations in 2021.

The Serum Institute of India announced on Twitter today that they expect to receive $150 million in funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the GAVI vaccines alliance in order to make 100 million more COVID-19 vaccines for the public. This collaboration between the three organizations was initially conceived this past August, and with the extra funding, the plan is now to produce 200 million vaccines in total to be distributed in the following year.

Several other organizations have been trying to create a vaccine for the deadly COVID-19 pandemic for the past seven months, but none have been permitted for use by the general public quite yet. The Bill & Melinda Gates organization was founded in 2000 and is the largest private charitable organization in the world as of 2015. On his social media, billionaire, philanthropist, and tech icon Bill Gates has been vocal about supporting health care workers and other essential workers during the pandemic.
