First-Ever ‘Mean Girls’ Reunion Includes a Push To Vote in Presidential Election
The Mean Girls cast reunites after 16 years to reminisce and encourage voting.
With Election Day creeping up, the Mean Girls cast encourages voting during their reunion video.
The cast members encouraged fans to vote on social media, and in return, they would receive a Mean Girls Reunion via Zoom.
Aaron Samuels, played by Jonathan Bennett, tweeted last week to promote the number of registered voters needed for the virtual reunion to take place.
On Oct 3rd he asked me to register to vote. Calling all Mean Girls fans to action! Sign up here to vote and if we get 5,000 people, we will do a Mean Girls reunion tomorrow on zoom! Not kidding. The cast received their desired 5,000 people to sign up using the hashtag #GOODTOVOTE and therefore held a virtual reunion celebration.
The virtual reunion, moderated by Katie Couric, was shared via Instagram for fans to watch the cast members relive multiple memories from the shooting of the movie.
While the reunion’s purpose was to encourage people to vote, they also discussed their personal experience with Mean Girls.
The cast discussed their roles and their reaction from being assigned the characters they had to portray.
Amanda Seyfried, who played Karen Smith was so excited to receive her role. Although she played a “dumb blonde,” Seyfried found that the role was perfect. She expressed how she used to act similarly in high school in order to avoid the inevitable drama.
Gretchen Weiners, played by Lacey Chabert, was also excited about her role after reading the script. She commented on her character during the virtual reunion.
“I just thought she was so intensely insecure and so desperate to have anyone’s approval. That’s what made her vulnerable. That was the part that made her likable and kept her from just being mean.”
Lindsay Lohan also commented about her role as Cady Heron.
Initially, Lohan was more interested in the role of Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams. After reading the script a second time, Lohan found that she was intrigued by Heron’s ability to express so much emotion.
“I mean during the process of filming for me, in between the movie I had done before and ‘Mean Girls,’ I had gone back to school, and it was a really weird transition for me. I was kind of an outcast, so I really related to it when I had to play Cady,” Lohan said during the reunion.
