Trump Tweets ‘Don’t Be Afraid of COVID’ Despite 200,000 People Dead
Donald Trump tweeted the controversial message to not “be afraid of COVID” in light of his recent diagnosis.
On October 5, President Donald Trump released a tweet stating the progress on his recovery from COVID-19.
President Trump was diagnosed with coronavirus on October 1, reportedly being infected through his close aid, Hope Hicks. Trump announced his medical status to the world with the following tweet:
Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!

The true condition of Trump’s health has been unknown. He was hospitalized at the Walter Reed Medical Center in Maryland, indicating that his symptoms must have been severe. However, he seems to have had a speedy recovery based on his recent tweet, in which he stated, “I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M. Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge. I feel better than I did 20 years ago!”

Trump’s tweet has sparked controversy. While some are thrilled by his speedy recovery, others are angry at his choice of wording, specifically undermining the severity of the pandemic by telling the world to “not be afraid of COVID.”
Many have called out Trump, stating that he had access to a global variety of medicine and that many are not in the same position as him, thus making COVID a genuine threat.

Additionally, many are outraged by Trump’s lack of consideration about how many people have died. According to Reuters Graphics, 210,000+ people have died from COVID-19, with at least 6 million-plus cases in the United States alone. Thus, the virus is a genuine threat and should be considered a hazard, unlike Trump’s claims.
