The synopsis of the project has been mostly kept under wraps other than the reveal that it’s set in an “isolated, utopian community in the 1950s.”
Layne and Chan are joining a stacked cast that includes Florence Pugh (Little Women), Harry Styles (Dunkirk), and Chris Pine (Wonder Woman). Pugh and Styles are set to play husband and wife in the film, with Styles being described as a picture-perfect husband who is hiding a dark secret.
Wilde confirmed the new casting news on Twitter with the caption, “Margaret & Shelley. #DontWorryDarling.”

Wilde is widely known for her successful directorial debut Booksmart and her recent tie to a secret Marvel project.
The film is being co-written by Katie Silberman, Carey Van Dyke, and Shane Van Dyke. The Van Dyke’s are executive producing the project with Catherine Hardwicke (Twilight). Wilde, Silberman, Roy Lee, and Miri Yoon are producers.
Recently, the film has been the subject of criticism by fans for its lack of diversity. With the recent casting of Layne and Chan, fans have been sharing their approval online.
