Adam Sandler’s ‘Hubie Halloween’ Pays Tribute to Cameron Boyce and Draws Attention to Bullying
Adam Sandler pays tribute to Cameron Boyce with his latest Netflix film, Hubie Halloween.
It’s October, and nothing screams “Halloween” like a movie that takes place in Salem. If you hop on Netflix right now, Hubie Halloween is waiting for you to choose it for your next movie night and have a good laugh.
The movie isn’t your typical Halloween horror; in fact, this Halloween film is pure comedy with the intent of transmitting two messages: anti-bullying and a tribute.
Hubie Halloween, directed by Steven Brill, follows a misfit hero solving several Salem residents’ disappearance during Halloween night. Sandler plays Hubie Dubois, a quirky-voiced outcast and the hero of the story. The movie features costars from Grown-Ups, such as Kevin James, Maya Rudolph, Steve Buscemi, and Rob Schneider. Sandler and his co-screenwriter Tim Herlihy worked together on writing this film.
Hubie isn’t taken seriously by his peer due to his quirks and cautiousness. The movie heavily revolves around this behavior, calling attention to his mistreatment, and realizing how wrong it is to treat someone this way just because they are different.
The movie is funny and very much what you would expect from a Sandler movie. Besides humor, the movie gives a beautiful tribute to the late Cameron Boyce. Halfway through the credits of the movie, an image of Boyce is shown along with the message: “In loving memory of CAMERON BOYCE. Gone way too soon, and one of the kindest, coolest, funniest, and most talented kids we knew. You live on forever in our hearts and are truly missed every day.”

Boyce, known for his roles on Disney Channel’s Jessie and Descendants, died in July 2019 at the age of 20 after suffering an epileptic seizure. Boyce worked with Sandler as one of his sons in the films Grown Ups and Grown Ups 2.
The movie is currently streaming on Netflix and is definitely a movie that will make you smile and get into the fun Halloween spirit.
