Bad Bunny Urges His Male Fans to Respect Women in His BBMAs Acceptance Speech for Top Latin Artist
Reggaeton star Bad Bunny gave a powerful speech calling for the respect of women when accepting the award for Top Latin Artist at last night’s BBMAs.
It was no surprise that Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny took home the award for Top Latin Artist at last night’s BBMAs following the success of his sophomore album, YHLQMDLG, which was released earlier this year. What was most surprising was what he said while accepting the award.
Bad Bunny called for his male fans to treat women with respect. He dedicated the award to women around the world, especially Latinas, and urged violence against women to stop. Bad Bunny has been known for calling out the machismo in the Latin community, and he’s been using his platform to speak up about violence against transwomen.
Before the speech, Bad Bunny performed his hit song “Yo Perreo Sola” off of YHLQMDLG, which is about respecting a woman’s decision if she decides to dance alone.
In the music video, Bad Bunny dresses as a woman in dedication to Alexa Legrón Luciano, a transwoman who was murdered in Puerto Rico earlier this year.

He also wore a shirt honoring her during his performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this year which read “Mataron a Alexa no un hombre con falda” meaning “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt.”

Bad Bunny’s fans loved his speech and they’re proud of him for constantly speaking up for women and trans rights, which many men in the Latin community refuse to do.
They also loved his performance, where he brought out Reggaeton pioneer Ivy Queen and Puerto Rican star Nesi for the remix of “Yo Perreo Sola.” Following the performance, “Benito” (Bad Bunny’s real name) and “Ivy Queen” trended on Twitter for hours.

Bad Bunny made sure to end Hispanic Heritage Month with a bang and we’re hoping that his speech inspires other Latin men to start speaking up and protecting women.
