This was Clarkson’s third year hosting the show, and the singer was live in an empty Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Despite the pandemic, the show went on, virtually.

The show was full of fantastic performances and moving award acceptance speeches that encouraged viewers to use their voices and vote.

Post Malone went home with the most awards of the night, winning nine. Malone won categories for Top Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Male Artist, and several others. His wins come from the rapper’s last album, Hollywood’s Bleeding. The 2019 album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. For Top Rap Artist Malone stood out amongst fellow artists DaBaby, Lil Nas X, and late rapper Juice WRLD.

Billie Eilish took home two of the top categories, Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Female Artist. When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? debuted as the best performing album of 2019, catapulting the then 17-year-old into stardom. The album topped the Billboard 200 charts, earning her the award.

Eilish used her acceptance speeches to thank her fans and the women that came before her. She also took the chance to remind viewers to wear a mask, be safe, and to vote.

Lizzo was another winner of the night who use their speech time to send a message to viewers. She won the Top Song Sales Artist award for “Truth Hurts” from her 2019 album Cuz I Love You. While accepting her award, Lizzo took the time to encourage her fans to stay true to themselves. The singer also mentioned that there is power in the people’s voice and that people should use that voice whether it is through music or by voting.

The Jonas Brothers won Top Duo/Group, while boy band BTS took home Top Social Artist.
