Lizzo, also known as ‘Auntie Sam,’ has been encouraging fans and followers to vote via recent Instagram posts.

With the presidential election coming up this November, celebrities like Lizzo have advocated for everyone to be active in this forthcoming election. With an election as crucial as this one, all registered voters must go out and use their voices. Lizzo has made it clear where she stands when it comes to voting and has been actively encouraging everyone eligible to register and head to the polls. She often refers to herself as her patriotic alter ego, ‘Auntie Sam, where she films herself twerking for the sake of democracy.

She captioned another post with a heartfelt message about why voting is a powerful tool to utilize in our country. She states, ‘Hey YOU. Have you felt the same disconnect from this country? Have YOU felt like this nation is your house but not your home? It’s because we are on stolen land trying to live within laws written by white men FOR white men in 1787.” Lizzo then acknowledges those who have used this time to stand up and speak out, “I see YOU using your power of protest and your freedom of speech. I see YOU unlearning the narrow scope of our history and seeking the truth..”

Lizzo uses her platform to be an activist and remind young Americans that our voices can be used through voting. In addition to posting on Instagram, she spoke about the importance of voting at the BBMA’s where she inspired fans to stay “true to who you are.” She did this while wearing a black dress with the words vote written all over it. Bravo, Lizzo; we can only hope that more young voters will be inspired to use their voices in the same way you do.
