The episode opened with a very animated rendition of Joe Biden’s (Jim Carrey) and Donald Trump’s (Alec Baldwin) town halls. Rae then followed with an extraordinarily charming and heartwarming monologue. She walked down the infamous stairs of the set full of excitement, explaining her disbelief of having stepped on the same stairs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have done. Rae admitted to the audience she felt “scared as hell,” which only added to her genuine and charismatic persona.

Rae explained to the audience how she was supposed to be a host back in March. During this time, the actress had movies The Photograph and The Lovebirds and season 4 of her HBO series Insecure to promote. However, this was put on hold due to the pandemic. Rae now admits she has “nothing going on,” which she brings forth as a comedic relief of what many people are experiencing during this pandemic. Rae brings laughter to the audience as she retells her response to those asking her what she has been working on, “I’m like – uh- puzzles… I don’t know. What have you been working on since you’re all in my business?”

The series Insecure premiered on HBO four years ago, before the 2016 election, Rae reminiscent, as she explained how she felt awkward celebrating her success as “democracy was collapsing.” Nevertheless, Rae showed the audience how grateful she is for the success she has been experiencing. She referred to these last for years as high school, making hosting SNL her prom night. It is safe to say, Rae deserves the milestones she has accomplished that lead her to such a memorable night.

The actress participated in three live skits “Canadian News Show,” “First Date Exes,” and “Your Voice Chicago.” The skits were a great break from the show’s politically-laden content due to the upcoming election. Rae was able to showcase her talent as a comedian and left people wishing she would’ve had more screen time.

Nevertheless, Rae showed off her versatility as a host and how SNL should have her back on set soon. It is safe to say that the actress has so much more success in store. Be sure to follow Rae and SNL on Twitter to stay up to date with any new content.
