Celebrities have been taking to their social media for the last few months, in every conceivable way, to get people to vote in the 2020 Presidential Election, Rihanna is no exception. [/caption]

Rihanna herself is not eligible to vote in this election because she is not a U.S. citizen however she is still using her businesses and her platform to remind her U.S. audience to use their voice. The iconic singer stated, “I’m an immigrant tryna get yo country together. Did u vote?”

Throughout the month of October, the Fenty Beauty Insta sends out a weekly PSA reminding voters of registration deadlines, absentee ballot request deadlines, and when early voting opens in each state. These posts are associated with the ‘I am a Voter’ campaign, which is a nonpartisan movement trying to encourage more citizens to vote.

‘I am a Voter’ is supported by a laundry list of other celebrities like Lizzo, Karli Kloss, Halle Berry, and many more. In the words of Rihanna, “We all have voices and it’s imperative that we go out and use them.” These celebrities use their social media presence to re-post content from the campaign that will direct users to their website’s resources. These include state-specific voting information, voting locations, and the ability to receive updates on voting information.

Instead of simply reminding individuals to get involved in the democratic process, they remind their viewers of the important reasons why voting is so important and how much change it can actually incite.

The campaign has two goals, one to spark a national interest in voting as a cultural movement and secondly to keep the spirit of democracy alive because it only works best when as many people as possible participate. While Rihanna is just one voice among many, her 10+million followers are certainly listening. You can visit the campaign site here.
