Chadwick Boseman’s Final Performance Teased in ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ Official Trailer
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom trailer reveals Chadwick Boseman’s final film performance.
According to the Netflix description, the film is about tensions rising when the trailblazing Mother of the Blues and her band gather at a Chicago recording studio in 1927.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom is based on the play by August Wilson. The film was directed by George C. Wolfe and produced by Denzel Washington.
Chadwick, who recently passed away and was best known for his role as the Black Panther in the Marvel franchise, was a contestant for an Oscar for his performance in this film.
Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom looks absolutely stunning. It’ll be hard saying goodbye to Chadwick but at least we’ll do it with what I’m sure is yet another impeccably committed performance. Viola Davis is gonna blow our minds too. I’m sure. pic.twitter.com/6m66LE1HiO

Davis played a motherly role to Chadwick in Get Up On. According to The Guardian, the actress said, “I’m looking back at how tired he always seemed. I look at his beautiful, unbelievable team that was meditating over him and massaging him, and I now realize everything they were trying to infuse in him to keep him going and working at his optimal level. And he received it.”
Davis has won multiple awards during her career. She was the first black woman to win a Tony, a Primetime Emmy, and an Oscar. Her role in this movie could win her another Oscar for her portrayal of Rainey.
According to Deadline, Davis “clearly inhabits the spirit and fight of the real Ma Rainey, who took her dominant Southern-based jug band sound and moved North to Chicago in the ’20s.”
This film will be an honorable way to say goodbye to Chadwick. He will forever be remembered for his amazing roles and strength. Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom will be released on Netflix on December 18.
