‘Dawson’s Creek’ Is Coming to Netflix, but Without Its Original Theme Song

Sony Pictures Television

The beloved teenage drama from 1998, Dawson’s Creek, will be making its way back into homes through Netflix this November.

Dawson’s Creek, known for its dramatic storyline and adored characters, played by Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, and Joshua Jackson, will be coming to Netflix on November 1.

Though fans are excited for the hit TV show to premiere on Netflix, some fans are shocked and upset by the most recent alteration to the series. When Dawson’s Creek is added to Netflix, the show will not have its original theme song.

Instead of the show’s original song, “I Don’t Want to Wait” by Paula Cole, “Run Like Mad” by Canadian musician Jann Arden, will take its place. Though some fans are disappointed, it has been explained that Jann’s song was originally supposed to be the theme song for Dawson’s Creek back when it first premiered.

Producer Paul Stupin had originally asked Arden to write a possible song option in 1997. Stupin also admitted in 2012 to The Huffington Post that another possible option for the shows theme song was “Hand in My Pocket” by Alanis Morissette. Eventually, the network heard Cole’s song and went with it instead. “Run Like Mad” had also replaced Cole’s song due to a rights issue and also saved the network money.

Though the theme song may not be the same, Dawson’s Creek is still full of all your favorite characters and everything else you loved about the show. Make sure to mark your calendars for November 1 and enjoy rewatching this fan-favorite.
