A Recap of the Last Presidential Debate of 2020

The second and final presidential debate took place in Nashville, Tennessee, and was focused more on their viewpoints instead of exchanging insults.

Contrasting the previous presidential debate, the debate last night was more informative of what the candidates stand for. Whether this calmness resulted from muting the mics, black-lash they received, or stricter allotted speaking time, this was defiantly a better and more civil debate overall.

In the polls, President Donald Trump is falling behind, and his administration made the tactical decision to show the public a less aggressive side of him. The American people will shortly see whether this paid off since many made up their minds before the debate and submitted their ballot for early voting. Still, surely Trump counted this as a small victory.

In terms of truth, Trump engaged in a myriad of lies, while Biden blemished the truth at times. For example, Trump said America is ’rounding the corner’ in terms of COVID-19, which is extremely misleading because cases and deaths continue to rise.

Trump did try to pull the rug underneath Biden by bringing up his son, Hunter Biden, but Biden didn’t take the bait on that and turned it right back around by questioning Trump paying his taxes. Many American people don’t see Biden’s son as a dealbreaker because it doesn’t actively affect their life, and their views on everything are pretty much polarized. Hence, it’s mainly what American’s believe.

Something that shocked many Americans was when Trump said, “I’m the least racist person in this room,” because what he has said in the past starkly contrasts the statement. The question originally asked allowed Trump to empathize appeal to the African American community who have felt so much pain due to the recent events that sparked the Black Lives Matter movement.

This debate was more professional; however, many people don’t believe it will change the American people’s minds.
