Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams has called out ex-band member Josh Farro for his homophobic Facebook rant and cleared the air about why the band really broke up.

Farro is in hot water after his homophobic Facebook rant recently resurfaced, calling homophobia a “perversion” and comparing it to pedophilia. Williams quickly addressed the comments in recent tweets, stating that “Paramore do not condone religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs which leave our LGBTQ+ friends, fans, & family feeling abandoned and hopeless.”

She also added that the breakup of Paramore wasn’t her fault, which many previously believed after Farro described Williams as being self-centered and said he and his brother were “riding on the coattails of Hayley’s dream.” Farro and his brother Zac left the band in 2010, but Zac eventually returned for Paramore’s last album, After Laughter, which was released in 2017.

Williams has since gone solo, and her debut album, Petals for Armor, was released earlier this year. The album received raving reviews, but Williams had to cancel her follow-up tour as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Zac has also spoken out and addressed Paramore’s LGBTQ+ fans, making it clear that he doesn’t agree with his brother’s comments. “I do not condone any actions that do not love and support your community,” he tweeted.

Fans are praising Williams for her response to Farro’s comments, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community, and they’re thanking her for standing up against bigotry and hatred. Many no longer support Farro and they’re glad his recent statements have gone public.

In the midst of the feud with Farro, Williams has just announced that her new EP, Petals for Armor: Self-Serenades, will be released on December 18. In the meantime, be sure to stream Petals for Armor, available now on all music streaming platforms.
