Andrew Lloyd Webber Releases the First Song From His New ‘Cinderella’ Musical
Musical theatre legend and composer Andrew Lloyd Webber has just surprised fans with the release of a new song from his upcoming musical Cinderella.
Webber, known for composing shows including The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, and School of Rock, has released the song “Bad Cinderella” from his new musical adaptation of the famous fairy tale about a girl who lost her glass slipper. The new musical comedy starring British actress Carrie Hope Fletcher will open on the West End in the Spring of 2021.

British actress Victoria Hamilton-Barritt is set to play Cinderella’s stepmother, and the rest of the cast has yet to be announced. The musical features a book written by Emerald Fennell (known for writing season two of Killing Eve for Phoebe Waller-Bridge), and lyrics written by David Zippel (who is known for writing lyrics for Disney’s Hercules). The new musical will be directed by Laurence Connor and choreographed by Joann Hunter.
Although theaters around the globe have been closed for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Webber and others have given fans something to look forward to. Webber’s reimagining of Cinderella is set to play at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London. The full audio for “Bad Cinderella” premiered on YouTube on October 29, 2020.
