Emily in Paris was the most-watched thing on Netflix in every country during its release week. No doubt because of how romanticized everything in Paris AKA the city of love is.

However, many people believe the show took it a bit far and only showed a “privileged” perspective of life in Paris. Lucas Bravo, who plays Gabriel in the show, even agreed with the criticism that it didn’t show the diversity and beauty within the city. He thought instead, it showed what people imagine it to be and gave the viewers cliches.

From the show’s wardrobe to the way Paris was portrayed, many critics had a lot to say about the new show that everyone is talking about, Emily in Paris. Viewers either loved or strongly disliked the show. The opinions were so polarized that pandemonium broke out.

Collins, the lead, said in a recent interview with Vogue Arabia said that if the show gets a second season that it would be a chance to act on the “disheartening” criticism and make the show more appealing to viewers as they “evolve the narrative.”

“As disheartening as it sometimes is to read these things, it’s also a gift; you’re being allowed to improve,” she told Vogue Arabia.

The other side of the argument entails that Emily is new to the city and seeks out those cliche moments and that there isn’t anything wrong with the charming and glamorous version of the beautiful city. Whether or not you care for the show, we can all agree that criticism makes you strive to do better and allows us to take into account other people’s perspectives.
