The creators of Netflix special Everything’s Fine explain how it came together in record time.

Everything’s Fine is a comedic sketch that discusses the ups and downs of the past four years’. Created by Sarah Cooper, her comedic special integrates some of the most popular trends of the year, such as Karens, QAnons, and working during the pandemic.

Cooper is a Jamaican-American author lately known for her TikTok trend of lip-syncing Trump’s statements in a satirical, parodic way. Her TikTok led her to come up with the idea for the special.

Cooper, Maya Rudolph, and Natasha Lyonne sat down with Rolling Stone before the special was released to discuss how the show came together in two and a half months with close to no budget.

“I was making TikToks in my living room in March, and then I’m on a Zoom call with Maya Rudolph and Natasha Lyonne in June,” Cooper told Rolling Stone. “My body was just like, ‘Let’s do it!’ and my mind was like, ‘Is this happening?’ And I kind of put one foot in front of the other and made it happen.”

In the special, Cooper is the host of a happy-talk show that is slowly losing her mind but is trying to keep up her faux smile while the pandemic world around her is crumbling.

Everything’s Fine makes it very clear that everything is not fine. The scenes only confirm everything that we already know; 2020 is a mess. Throughout the special, you can see her spiraling until she reaches a point where her mental state is unstable, and she can’t continue her facade.

The special features guest appearances from Jon Hamm, Ben Stiller, Jane Lynch, Megan Thee Stallion, Marisa Tomei, Winona Ryder, and more. Everything’s Fine is now streaming on Netflix.
