Jeannie Mai Leaves ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Due to Health Concerns
Jeannie Mai is ending her journey on Dancing With the Stars after a health concern arises that needs immediate treatment.
The Real co-host, Jeannie Mai, has ended her dancing career on Dancing With the Stars this week. “A health concern that requires immediate attention” has caused this abrupt halt to her reality competition position.
Mai gave a statement to USA Today that she needs “immediate attention and surgery” on her throat. Doctors had discovered her inflammatory illness of epiglottitis.
According to the Mayo Clinic, epiglottitis is a life-threatening illness that causes the epiglottis to swell and prevent proper airflow through the throat.
“I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here,” she added. “The last several weeks have been an amazing learning experience. I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come. I can’t thank my partner Brandon enough for being so supportive and believing in me. I also want to thank MAI fans who voted every week, and I wish everyone else in the competition the best of luck!”
Fans are disappointed in this unfortunate turn of events. Many were inspired by her constant positivity and radiating energy.
Oh no!!!!! @jeanniemai I always look forward to your dances, your energy and your overall radiance, but your health is way more important than anything. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Although Mai has left the competition, the show must go on. Tonight’s live show will now include the eight remaining couples with single elimination. Dancing With the Stars released a statement in regards to the unfortunate loss of Mai’s presence on the show.
“Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication. We wish her a full and speedy recovery,” Dancing With the Stars said in a statement given to USA Today.

In Mai’s previous and final performance on the show, she danced to “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado on Villian’s Night. Mai and her professional dance partner, Brandon Armstrong, scored a 25 out of 30 for her energetic and strong performance. However, the score still put Mai in a risky position. They managed to survive the elimination round, as the head Cheer coach, Monica Aldama, was sent home.
We hope Mai will have a successful surgery and that she will become healthy soon.
