Shawn Mendes Shares Life on Stage and off in Emotional ‘In Wonder’ Trailer
Shawn Mendes gets vulnerable with fans in the first trailer for his Netflix documentary In Wonder, which highlights never-before-seen moments of the popstar’s life.
The film follows Mendes’ rise to fame from starting off on Vine to becoming an incredible pop artist that has sold out a multitude of arenas. In Wonder will also capture the musician’s mental health struggles of dealing with anxiety due to constantly being in the public eye. The documentary offers an insight look at the hardships and successes that Mendes has faced as a celebrity while growing up in the spotlight.
“This isn’t the story of a famous musician. This is a story about a guy growing up,” the 22-year-old Canadian singer says in the clip as shots of performances, physical breakdowns, and childhood home-videos flash onscreen. “I used to feel like my idols were born legendary. That’s just not the truth. If I tell the world that I’m just a normal human, are they just going to stop coming to the shows? Maybe I should pretend that I’m Superman for a little bit longer.”
The Netflix documentary In Wonder is set to premiere on November 23 on its streaming platform.
In Wonder will also touch on his relationship with singer-songwriter, Camila Cabello as the trailer shows tender moments of the couple meditating together, encouraging each other’s music, and their “Senorita” performance at the 2019 MTV VMAs.
The trailer ends with Mendes revealing Cabello as the inspiration behind his music as he says, “My song comes on the radio or something, and I’m like, ‘Everything is about you. They’ve always been about you.’ She goes, ‘What do you mean?’ And I’m like, ‘They’re all about you — like, every song I ever wrote.’”
The Netflix documentary was directed by music video helmer Grant Singer, who has previously directed for The Weeknd, Lorde, and Sam Smith. In Wonder was produced by Mendes; the film will drop a few weeks before his upcoming album Wonder, which arrives on December 4.
The singer’s fans are very excited about the Netflix In Wonder documentary. The Mendes army is claiming that they are going to see the film every day and that he has saved 2020.
