Lashana Lynch Deletes Social Media Due to Racist Harassment for Her Role in James Bond’s ‘No Time To Die’
The Bond franchise has been looking for its newest 007 agent for years, but now that the role is confirmed by Lashana Lynch herself, the haters are rearing their ugly heads.
The world has been waiting patiently for the final installment of Daniel Craig’s story as James Bond in the film No Time To Die. The buzz around this film has been mostly positive due to progressive additions behind the scenes. Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas composed the namesake song for the film. Ana de Armas will play a role as a possible Bond Girl who kicks more butt than usual, and Craig brought on Phoebe Waller-Bridge to help write a script that was in desperate need of a fresh, female face.

To top all of this off, Lashana Lynch, a Black actress who played Captain Marvel’s best friend, Maria Rambeau, would be taking over the infamous position of agent 007. For any actor, this role would bring pressure and expectation to live up to, but for Lynch, her race and gender came into play as fans attacked her for not fitting their ideal version of the character.

In a recent interview with Harpers Bazaar UK, Lynch revealed what really happened when the news broke about her character. She said, “I am one Black woman – if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse. I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I’m a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary.”

This is not the first nor the last time a female actress has been harassed online for taking a role that was not originally designed for their race. Halle Bailey received hate for taking the role of Ariel in the new live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and Kelly Marie Tran was practically written out of her original role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker over the horrendous trolling she received.
While the world of blockbuster films is trying to change to add diverse characters, there is still a community of hate alive and well to ensure that it doesn’t happen. It will take the strength of actresses like Lynch to silence the negative voices and continue to do the work they know they deserve.
