Check Out the Newest Content From Marvel Studios’ ‘WandaVision’

Marvel fans were given some new content from Disney Plus’ WandaVision on Monday night after Entertainment Weekly revealed cast members of the highly-anticipated series were the December cover stars.

The series is a spinoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe containing the widely known characters of Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) and Vision. WandaVision is seeking to bring a change to the current television scene by stepping backward in time and diving into an atmosphere that resembles sitcoms such as I Love Lucy.

In order to incorporate the classic sitcoms, a live studio audience was brought on set for the premiere episode, as well as black and white cameras. Marvel Studios has managed to keep plot details and information tight-lipped, and the audience was required to sign strict NDA’s during filming last year.

Elizabeth Olsen, who portrays Scarlet Witch in both the series and films, said the live audience was “insanity.”

“It was insanity,” Olsen said. “There was something very meta for my own life because I would visit those tapings as a kid, where my sisters were working [on Full House].” 

Paul Bettany, who plays Vision, said the audience reaction made him want to “go on tour.”

“We were all so high by the end of it, we wanted to keep on running the show,” Bettany said. “Maybe take it out on tour or something. WandaVision on ice.” 

Initially, the series was meant to follow behind the release of new era content such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Black Widow, and Eternals. Now, WandaVision will take aim at being the launch of Phase Four of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.

With little information surrounding the show, WandaVision‘s head writer Jac Schaeffer explained that it’s simply a love letter to sitcoms. “The show is a love letter to the golden age of television,” Schaeffer said. “We’re paying tribute and honoring all of these incredible shows and people who came before us, [but] we’re also trying to blaze new territory.”

The new show is set after Endgame and opens with a look into the married lives of Wanda and Vision in a town called Westview. “We find Wanda and Vision living a blissful suburban existence, trying to keep their powers under wraps,” Schaeffer said.

The series is welcoming some new faces with the casting of both Kathryn Hahn and Teyonah Parris. Hahn is joining the cast as the couples’ neighbor, while Parris plays a grown-up version of Captain Marvel character Monica Rambeau.

Parris says she hopes her role provides diverse fans a chance to see underrepresented roles on screen. “I feel so special and honored to be able to walk in her shoes and bring her story to life,” Parris said. “I hope that me playing this character (a) gives a group of people who are underrepresented a chance to see themselves, and (b) seeing my face and my Black body helps them engage with Black women and our humanity.”
