Sofia Carson and Charles Melton are star-crossed lovers in the new romantic film Purple Hearts, set to be directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum.

An adaptation from the YA novel by Tess Wakefield, Purple Hearts follows an aspiring singer-songwriter Cassie (Carson), and a military man Luke (Melton), who falls hopelessly in love with each other, despite being polar opposites. However, Carson will not only star as Cassie in the romance film; she is also going to write and perform original music.

Carson starred in Disney’s Descendants and Freeform’s Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists. She recently can be seen in Netflix’s Feel The Beat. Her upcoming project, Songbird, features Carson and Kj Apa in a pandemic-induced world.

Melton’s is known for his role as Reggie Mantle in The CW’s hit series Riverdale. He also has starred in The Sun Is Also a Star and most recently in Bad Boys For Life.

Purple Hearts provides hope that two people with such differing world views, stuck in the same place, forced to fight the same fight, might be able to learn a little about each other’s beliefs, get over their own bullshit, start to understand each other and just maybe fall in love. It’s a very timely, emotional story – truly a romance for the ages,” Rosenbaum said, according to Deadline.

Rosenbaum has previously worked on YA films such as Ramona and Beezus and Aquamarine. Currently, she is working on Sneakerella for Disney+. The romance film is set to be produced by Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton, who is known for Gossip GirlPretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, and Everything, Everything.

Fans of both actors are excited to see the pair act as star-crossed lovers in the new film, but fans of Carson are especially excited that the singer will be writing and performing the soundtrack as well.

Purple Hearts has yet to release a trailer or premiere date, but we can’t wait for more updates on the project and to see these two work together.
