Taylor Swift Reveals She Is Re-Recording Her Catalog After Her Masters Were Sold for the Second Time

Taylor Swift has finally revealed that she is re-recording her extensive music catalog after Scooter Braun sold her masters to a private equity fund.

Swift fans were taken off-guard on Monday afternoon when it was reported that Braun had sold the singer’s masters after only 17 months of owning them. In support of Swift, fans started the hashtag “#WeLoveYouTaylor,” which became a trending topic throughout the day.

To clear the air and provide fans with some much-needed solace, Swift took to social media to speak to her followers. In the message, the “cardigan” artist revealed that she was previously in negotiations to buy back her catalog.

“Scooter’s team wanted me to sign an ironclad NDA stating I would never say another word about Scooter Braun unless it was positive before we could even look at the financial records of BMLG,” Swift wrote. “So, I would have to sign a document that would silence me forever before I could even have a chance to bid on my own work.”

Swift’s legal team warned the singer that these kinds of demands were not normal unless it was to silence an assault victim and that Braun never quoted her team a price.

“He would never even quote my team a price,” Swift wrote. “These master recordings were not for sale to me.”

Shamrock Holdings, a private equity-owned by Roy E. Disney, reached out to Swift a few weeks ago to let her know they were now the owners of her masters. The company revealed they wanted to reach out to the singer before the sale, but that Braun wouldn’t allow it.

“The letter told me that they wanted to reach out before the sale to let me know, but that Scooter Braun had required that they make no contact with me or my team, or the deal would be off,” Swift wrote.

Swift mentioned that she was “hopeful” for a partnership with the firm but soon realized that Braun will still be profiting off of her masters for years to come.

“I was hopeful and open to the possibility of a partnership with Shamrock, but Scooter’s participation was a non-starter for me,” Swift wrote.

On a happier shift, Swift disclosed that she is currently in the process of re-recording her older music. The singer also teased fans by saying she has more surprises in store.

“I have recently begun to re-record my older music and it has already proven to be both exciting and completely fulfilling,” Swift wrote. “I have plenty of surprises in store.”

Ending the letter, Swift reminded fans of her love for them and that she’s going to “keep on crushing.” We can’t wait to see all of the new content she has in store and are excited about Swift’s future success.
