This holiday season, Netflix is releasing a documentary about the Shondaland production of the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker. It will demonstrate the magical journey and process of a large dance production at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.

Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker will highlight conversations with Allen, her students, her family, and studio instructors. These interviews and discussions will give viewers insight into what goes on behind the scenes during the Hot Chocolate Nutcracker production.

In her interview with People magazine, Allen stated that the purpose and message she wants to get across is, “Young people seeing an image of themselves that propels them to want and go further. When I’m training these young people, I expect them to get out in the world the way my mother expected me. All of us get out here and do something and be productive. That is the character education that instills creativity.”

The documentary will also walk viewers through Allen’s journey through the entertainment industry and how she saw herself. It will also provide insight into the passion that the students, instructors, families, and even Allen herself have for dance and the production of Hot Chocolate.

With the long nights of rehearsals, The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker has now become an essential holiday show performed in the Los Angeles area. Dance Dreams: Hot Chocolate Nutcracker will premiere on November 27. Make sure you mark your calendars for the perfect holiday documentary.
