Rosario Dawson is teaming up with Ava DuVernay for a new comic book series that is set to premiere exclusively on HBO Max.

HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television revealed the exciting news on Thursday, citing that DuVernay and Roberto Patino will be producing the limited series based on the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name.

The series will center on a future America involved in a civil war that leaves Manhattan a demilitarized war zone (DMZ). It follows a medic Alma Ortega (Dawson) on a journey to find the son she lost during an evacuation of New York.

Conflict ensues when a powerful DMZ gang leader (Benjamin Bratt) seeks to rule this new world. Ortega soon becomes a beacon of hope in a society of cultural and political divide.

The four-part limited series’ cast will also include Freddy Miyares, Hoon Lee, and Jordan Preston Carter. This series comes as HBO’s second comic book adaption, coming after the massive success of the Emmy winning series Watchmen starring Regina King and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

DMZ is scheduled to premiere exclusively on HBO Max upon release. To keep up with production news and set content, follow DuVernay on Twitter and Instagram.
