President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris just announced their appointed members of the all-female senior White House communications team. Here’s what you need to know.

Jen Psaki, who served in the Obama Administration, will serve as the Biden Administration press secretary. Kate Bedingfield is set to serve as the White House communications director (she also was heavily involved in Biden’s 2020 campaign and worked in the Obama Administration). Pill Tobar, who also worked with Biden during his campaign, is set to work with Bedingfield and serve as the White House deputy communications director.

Symone Sanders is set to serve as Harris’ senior adviser and chief spokesperson (after aiding the president-elect as Biden’s adviser during the presidential campaign). Elizabeth Alexander will work with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and serve as her communications director (she also acted as one of Biden’s advisers during the campaign). Many of these women are people of color and break both gender and race barriers in being part of the Biden Administration.

In a statement to the public, according to CNN, President-Elect Biden said, “I am proud to announce today the first senior White House communications team comprised entirely of women. These qualified, experienced communicators bring diverse perspectives to their work and a shared commitment to building this country back better.” In addition to having a communications team entirely comprised of women, Biden vowed to aid women and fight for gender equality during his presidency on Twitter.

Several of these women have worked on numerous presidential campaigns and worked with organizations to improve the lives of immigrants, women, and people of color. We cannot wait to see what this incredible communications team accomplishes alongside Biden and Harris.
