Keke Palmer Opens up About Her Struggles With Acne and Her PCOS Diagnosis
Actress and singer Keke Palmer gets vulnerable on social media and discusses her health issues.
Palmer took to her Instagram this week to open up about health concerns that she has been struggling with for a long time, and after doing her own research and speaking to several doctors, she has recently found answers. She got real with her followers by posting three makeup-free and filterless selfies, showing off her acne.
“Hey you guys, for some of you this may be TMI, but for me my platform has always been used for things much greater than me. Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea,” she shares in her caption. She explained all, the changes she made to attempt to get her skin clearer, from diets to Accutane, and nothing seemed to be helping. “But it took ME taking a personal look into my family that has a history of diabetes and obesity, to understand what was ACTUALLY happening with me,” she explains.
She hopes that sharing her experiences will encourage others to fight for answers to any health issues they may be struggling with. “I’m posting this to say that it’s okay and we can help ourselves,” she explains. My skin has made me sad many nights but I do not give up on myself. I know this is not me and my body has been looking for help. I do not have a medical degree but I did the research and took what I learned to a doctor and that led them to a proper diagnosis.”
Palmer also aims to spread the message of self-love no matter how your skin might look. “Pray for me on this journey and I will pray for you too. I’m not afraid to show myself to the world and you shouldn’t be either ❤️.”
