Here Are All of the Winners From the 2020 Soul Train Awards
The 2020 Soul Train Awards, hosted by Tisha Campbell and Tichina Arnold, was a night of amazing performances, well-deserved awards, and moving acceptance speeches.
The Soul Train Awards looked different this year, as due to COVID-19, it was an intimate affair. A small, socially distanced crowd watched the award ceremony on a small stage with a masked-up band. Despite the special venue, Campbell and Arnold were the perfect pair to host and make the show larger than life. The duo, and celebrities like Tessa Thompson and Deon Cole, were announcers for the night’s winners.

R&B singer Brandy started the night by winning the Soul Train Certified Award. The “Borderline” singer has made something of a comeback with her latest album B7, her first release since 2012. Brandy thanked her team that has been supporting her through her career that has spanned the last 26 years. She went on to perform a set from the album.
Thank you @BET for an incredible night and honoring me with this award. Special thanks @JesseCollinsEnt @adamblackstone and the entire crew ✨ #b7 #SoulTrainAwards pic.twitter.com/FtmLweBEyB— b r a n d y (@4everBrandy) November 30, 2020
Grammy-nominated songstress H.E.R. accepted the award for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist. She won the Ashford and Simpson’s Songwriters Award for “I Can’t Breathe,” and was nominated for seven other awards, including Song of the Year and Best Collaboration. This win comes as fans await the debut album from the “Damage” singer. During her acceptance, she discredited the theory that R&B is dead, stating that Rhythm and Blues “is in everything.”

Swedish singer Snoh Aalegra took home the award for Best New Artist, her first Soul Train Award. Following the release of her sophomore album, Ugh, Those Feels Again, in 2019, Aalegra has earned quite a following of fans who love her sultry voice. On a space-like backdrop, Aalegra performed her hit single, “I Want You Around,” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Adult R&B charts.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️ https://t.co/CyTUzUPFUC pic.twitter.com/mTxNZalfpc— Snoh Aalegra (@snohaalegra) November 30, 2020
The highlight of the Soul Train Awards is always the Lady of Soul Award, and this year’s recipient was R&B icon Monica. After being discovered at the age of eleven, with a voice beyond her years, Monica grew up before the world’s eyes. Eight albums, full of classic songs, fill an almost three-decade career that does not show signs of stopping. Monica performed a medley of her hits, and her voice is as strong as ever.
The way that @MonicaDenise completely shut it down with her Lady of Soul medley. Amazing. The hits just keep hitting. #SoulTrainAwards pic.twitter.com/IVE2gqrv1K— BET (@BET) November 30, 2020
