Here Are the Best TV Shows of 2020 According to Variety
After the emotional rollercoaster that has been 2020, many people have used TV shows as distractions from the pandemic and other global disasters and as a result, Variety came up with a list of the best TV shows of the year.
For every unbelievably long month of 2020, Variety has decided which TV show was most popular. Many people binged TV shows during quarantine, and here are some of the most-watched ones. For the month of January, the best show was Netflix’s Bojack Horseman. This animated comedy sitcom starring Alison Brie, Aaron Paul, and others became a fan-favorite at the beginning of the year. In February, the best TV show according to Variety was Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet on Apple TV Plus. This comedy series starring David Hornsby, Rob McElhenney, Charlotte Nicdao, and others follows a creative team of video game creators.

For the month of March, Variety’s TV critic Caroline Framke deemed Steven Universe: Future on Cartoon Network was the best TV show. For April, the animated series Harley Quinn DC Universe on HBO Max was the best TV show. In May, HBO’s comedy series Betty starring Nina Moran and Rachelle Vinberg was the best TV show. In June, Framke claimed the best TV show was HBO’s I May Destroy You.
For the month of July, Framke’s favorite TV show was Netflix’s Immigration Nation, which is a docuseries about ICE’s operations and how they have increased their work under the Trump Administration. In August, the best TV show was the sports sitcom Ted Lasso starring Jason Sudeikis and others on Apple TV Plus. In September, the best TV show was Pen15, depicting Maya Erskine and Anna Konkle’s experience in middle school on Hulu. In October, the best TV show was The Amber Ruffin Show streaming on Peacock. In November, the best TV shows according to Framke were City So Real on National Geographic and How To With John Wilson on HBO. Lastly, for the month of December, the best TV show was I Hate Suzie on HBO Max and Sky UK.
