Netflix Has No Plans to Add a Fiction Disclaimer to ‘The Crown’

The Netflix original series about the royal British family and the reign of Queen Elizabeth II refuses to add a fiction disclaimer.
The most recent season of The Crown covers the reign of Queen Elizabeth II from 1979 to the early 1990s. This is also the time where Princess Diana and Charles, the Prince of Wales, are married. Since the show dramatized historical events and the reputation of the monarchy, many critics believe Netflix should include a fiction disclaimer.
Still marveling over the person who said #TheCrown needs a disclaimer in front of it because Prince George or Prince Louis or Princess Charlotte might watch it and learn bad things about their grandpa.

However, even with the British government breathing down Netflix’s neck, they have no plans to add the disclaimer because they feel there is no need.
“We have always presented The Crown as a drama — and we have every confidence our members understand it’s a work of fiction that’s broadly based on historical events,” Netflix said in a statement. “As a result we have no plans, and see no need, to add a disclaimer.”

In the fourth season, the chaotic relationship between Princess Diana and Prince Charles is displayed. The main fear is that people will see the royal family in a different and untrue light. The dramatization of events is added to peak interest and many people who don’t know the historical background might not be able to make those distinctions.
since the crown is fiction, I want Princess Diana and Liza Minnelli to be girlfriends in season 5. pic.twitter.com/icpEGR5iOU

The royal family is known for being secretive and many British officials don’t want watchers to take information from the show at face value. Once you start watching, it’s easy to get hooked and many fear that you will forget that it’s fiction. You can stream The Crown now on Netflix and remind yourself it is all fictional.
