The decision was announced on Thursday morning with the reveal that the thriller will now release theatrically on March 5 instead of the previous slated date of January 22.

The film, which is an adaptation of Patrick Ness’ best-selling novel The Knife of Never Letting Go, was initially scheduled to release in March of 2019 before being postponed for reshoots. Lionsgate unveiled the highly-awaited trailer on November 19.

According to a synopsis provided by IMDb, the film is set in a dystopian world where “there are no women and all living creatures can hear each others’ thoughts in a stream of images, words, and sounds called Noise.”

The film’s official Twitter account shared the new release date, as well as a never before seen clip of Viola (Ridley) being able to see Todd’s (Holland) thoughts.

In a statement posted by a Chaos Walking admin, they spoke of the decision, citing they wanted fans to be able to see the film in the “best and safest viewing experience.”

“We know how important this movie is to a lot of you, so we wanted to make sure we gave you the best and safest viewing experience by pushing the date a little longer,” The admin wrote. “We know you’ve all been patient, but it’ll be worth it!”

Chaos Walking will premiere in theaters nationwide on March 5, 2021. We can’t wait to see this dystopian thriller on the big screen, and we have no doubt it’ll be worth the wait.
