Lil Baby and former NBA star Stephen Jackson helped throw George Floyd’s daughter Gianna her 7th birthday party.

Rapper Lil Baby and Jackson teamed up with other celebrities this week to help throw a surprise birthday for Gianna, the 7-year-old daughter of Floyd. This the first birthday she’s spent without her father, who was killed by Minneapolis Police in May, sparking worldwide outrage and months-long protests.

Plans for the party began in July and the owners of Atlanta’s Restaurant Ten and Rosie’s Café also helped out. Making Gianna’s birthday special was especially important to Jackson who was Floyd’s longtime friend, and he has continuously fought for justice for his death.

The party was socially-distanced to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, and it took place in several rooms of Atlanta’s Pink Hotel. It was a pink L.O.L. dolls-themed bash, and all guests got the chance to receive manicures and pedicures upon arrival.

Jackson documented the party on social media, which was filled with balloons, plenty of food, and a candy buffet. Gianna was seen being pampered at the bash, while her mother Roxi Washington smiled from ear to ear.

Other celebrity guests were in attendance including Shaquille O’Neal, Future, and the children of Rayshard Brooks, another Black man who was shot and killed by police in Atlanta this year. They all wanted to come together to help make Gianna’s birthday one to remember.

Fans of Lil Baby are applauding him for taking part in the surprise, and they hope this encourages other rappers to do more for their communities. Over the summer, the rapper released his song “The Bigger Picture” in response to Floyd’s death and the many incidents of racial injustice across the nation, and he’s continued to use his platform to help the Black community.

We’re all happy to see Floyd’s daughter with a smile on her face after everything she’s been through this year, and her latest party should be a reminder that we should never stop fighting for Black lives.
