Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ Tops Charts Only 3 Days After Its Initial Release

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series actress, 17-year-old Olivia Rodrigo quickly rose on the charts to No. 1 with her debut single “Drivers License”.

On January 7, Olivia Rodrigo released the single, “drivers license” along with an engaging music video to accompany it.

Since the premiere, the music video has reached over 26 million views. Rodrigo continues with her success as it became the first song of the year to hit #1 on both Apple Music and iTunes as well as other streaming services like Spotify concurrently.

Rodrigo reportedly wrote this song after dealing with her first major breakup. Showcasing her powerful voice as well as skilled songwriting, this debut single engorges on how in one’s life, someone means the world to them. Rodrigo sings about someone she thought she would be with forever. This person teaches her how to drive, hoping that she would drive to them when she got her license. Yet, before the license was acquired the couple separated. Now, everytime she drives she feels pain knowing the other person isn’t in her life anymore. 

Known for her work on Disney’s Bizaardvark (2016-2019), An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success (2015), and her most recent endeavor, Disney+ High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, Rodrigo has gained quite a following. 

TikTok rapidly took to her song with content creators delving into the lyrics, breaking them down. Other creators recreated moments in her music video while others mouthed the lyrics while crying. 

On Twitter, many fans posted their reactions with many hoping she releases an album soon. Other fans posted their own covers, while some caps-lock screamed how they have only been streaming this song.

Due to her past and current success, the song garnered a large stamina. This allowed the song to top the charts. Within a day of the release the song was already at #3. On January 10, the song hit #1 surpassing Taylor Swift. 

Acclaimed singer and songwriter Taylor Swift commented on an Instagram post by Rodrigo saying, “I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud.”

Rodrigo, who is a huge Taylor Swift fan has previously, on Twitter, proclaimed her love for Swift as well as her admiration for her.
