Armie Hammer Leaves His Role in ‘Shotgun Wedding’

Armie Hammer has dropped out of an upcoming film with Jennifer Lopez, titled Shotgun Wedding, due to social media controversy and online attacks. Direct messages that are alleged to have been sent by Hammer surfaced last week and have since been trending. These Instagram messages have yet to be verified but have affected Hammer’s image in the public eye drastically. The messages were said to have contained explicit and graphic sexual preferences. Hammer took to a variety of entertainment outlets to break his silence on the matter, including Entertainment Tonight.

The upcoming Lionsgate film set to premiere on Amazon Prime entails a couple who brings their families together for a destination wedding. However, the celebration takes a turn when the wedding jitters arise, as well as criminals. While Ryan Reynolds was originally cast for the role, he has now taken the position of executive producer for the film. Recasting will be happening soon due to the imminent production of the movie.

A representative from Lionsgate reached out to Variety to show their support for the actor’s decision, “Armie has requested to step away from the film and we support him in his decision.” However, in regard to two other upcoming projects, The Billion Dollar Spy and Call Me By Your Name, Hammer has not made any public decisions to rescind his roles.
