After five successful seasons, HBO comedy Insecure is coming to an end. The news was announced earlier today by Amy Gravitt, the executive vice president of HBO programming.

Back in May, it was announced that the show had been renewed for a fifth season, but most didn’t expect it to be the last one, especially after how well-received season 4 was. The show has gained a large following over the years, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats and engaging in heated online debates after each episode.

Since its premiere, Insecure‘s lead actress, co-creator and executive producer Issa Rae has blown up. She’s received several Emmy nominations for her role and she’s also starred in other successful films like The Photograph and Little.

Many of the show’s fans are shocked and saddened by the news of its end, and they’re hoping that all of their questions finally get answered in season 5. Even though most are upset, some fans feel that five seasons is just enough for the series and that keeping the show going any longer would just drag it out.

Insecure coming to a close is bittersweet for Issa Rae. Although it’s sad, she’s grateful for the love she’s received since it started. “We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience. I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least,” Rae told Deadline.

Production for season 5 is expected to start soon, with a premiere set for later this year. Until then, you can stream all four seasons of Insecure, now available on HBO and HBO Max.
