Satchel and Jackson Lee have been named Golden Globe Ambassadors for the 78th premiere of the prestigious awards show.

The father of the two, Spike Lee, has produced more than 35 films since 1983, such as Do the Right Thing, BlacKkKlansman, and the 1992 Malcolm X. Lee’s latest project, Da 5 Bloods is expected to be a contender for an award.

The duo joins Laura Dern (daughter of Diane Ladd and Bruce Dern), Isan Elba (daughter of Idris Elba), Rumer Willis (Demi Moore and Bruce Willis’ daughter), and Simone Garcia Johnson (Dwayne Johnson’s daughter) as Golden Globe Ambassadors. Satchel and Jackson Lee will take the historical position as the first Black siblings to become ambassadors. Jackson will also be the first Black male ambassador.

The siblings plan on raising awareness on the charitable cause of the Callen-Lorde and Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations. These organizations support LGBTQIA+ healthcare and youth mentorship in intercity areas. Both operations will receive $25,000 in grant money from the HFPA.

They are nobly using their father’s legacy to spread awareness about the disproportionate effect on Black and brown LGBTQIA+ members. This also allows them to enlighten the public about the hard work the doctors and nurses at Callen-Lorde do day in and day out to contribute to society. Since the two have their father to look up to, they believe it’s important for all youth to have access to that kind of mentor relationship.

Premiering on Sunday, February 28, on NBC, we look forward to witnessing history on this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
