Watch the Official Trailer for Tom Holland’s New Film ‘Cherry’
Cherry hits theaters on February 26 and March 12 Apple TV+, and now we finally have the film’s first official trailer. WARNING: This article contains information describing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as well as abuse and dependency. Please read with discretion.
Tom Holland stars as Nico Walker, an emotionally deprived young adult from Ohio. Despite finding the love of his life, Emily (portrayed by Ciara Bravo), Walker quickly joins the Army as a medic and is deployed to Iraq after dropping out of college.
Walker eventually becomes dependent on drugs. This is due to his developed Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. His PTSD leads to a plethora of horrific decisions, that causes Emily to, in a sense, drain from his life.

In a series of flashbacks and the present day, Walker struggles to live independently, coexisting with his opioid addiction. Walker’s drug dependency leads to serious financial debt, placing his mental state in a concerning state. This creates an unfolding drama with Emily, causing the pieces of their puzzle to dismount.

Turning to bank robbery, his addiction has spread from opioid drugs to serial robbery. He hopes that his robberies will extend to further fuel his drug reliance by giving him the fulfillment of money he lacks.
Anthony and Joe Russo, directors of the film, wanted an authentic portrayal of how PTSD after major events can lead to turmoil. Having had close family, as well as friends, become addicted to opioids, this project felt very personal to them.
Joe Russo told Entertainment Weekly, “We’re acutely aware of the existential blight that has gripped the Midwest in a lot of ways and made it ground zero for the opioid epidemic. We’ve known a lot of people very close to us who have been hurt by the epidemic.”
Just read „Cherry“ by Nico Walker. I was excited. I was captivated. I was shocked. I am devastated now. I’m not even crying I’m just downright depressed, the best thing I’ve read since normal people #CherryMovie

Cherry is based on the Nico Walker autobiography, titled with the same name. The novel, which was published in 2018, was based on Walker’s own life. Written whilst in prison, Walker wanted to touch base on how the trauma and effects of his undiagnosed PTSD created the fixtures of addiction.
Through his acting career, Holland continues to show the incredible range he has; shifting from the comedic undertones of past movies to now Cherry, which shows how trauma truly affects the reactions and behaviors one undertakes from their teenage years (in some cases childhood) that carries into adulthood.
