10 years after Selena Gomez first hinted at making music in Spanish, she released her first Spanish single, “De Una Vez” on January 14.

Gomez announced her latest single hours before the song and music video dropped.

In an interview with Apple Music, Gomez said she wanted the song to connect people because, “there’s something about Latin music that, globally, just makes people feel things.”

“De Una Vez” translates to “At Once” in English and the song represents the moment someone overcomes heartbreak.

Fans believed Gomez would be releasing Latin music a few days before she announced “De Una Vez.” Gomez had recently liked a fan account’s photo that displayed Gomez’s name alongside the phrases “De Una Vez” and “Baila Conmigo” in graffiti art.

After the song’s release, Gomez took to Twitter to post: “This is the beginning of something I’ve wanted to explore for so long. I hope you love it as much as I do.” A statement echoed by an earlier quote tweet reminding fans she promised fans Spanish music 10 years earlier.

Gomez premiered “De Una Vez” with its corresponding music video directed by the duo Los Pérez (Tania Verduzco and Adrián Pérez). The music video shows Gomez walking through a magical home evoking the passage of time and mirroring the song’s theme of moving on after heartbreak.

Music producers for the song include Tainy, Albert Hype, Jota Rosa, and NEON16.

At the end of the music video, the phrase “Baila Conmigo” flashed across the screen, hinting at future Latin music, either another track or a full album.
