Sabrina Carpenter Opens up About New Single ‘Skin’

Sabrina Carpenter addresses rumors and explains the meaning behind her new single, “Skin.”

The slow pop ballad is an emotional rollercoaster and a result of many events. In a social media post, singer Sabrina Carpenter addresses that people might have interpreted her lyrics and their meaning in the wrong way. As the artist, she is truly the only person who knows the intentions behind the song and she aimed to clear the air of any rumors.
In Carpenter’s post, she first thanked her followers and everyone who listened to her song, specifically those who kept an open mind. She then goes on to, presumably, compliment “Drivers License” by Olivia Rodrigo. She explains that the song wasn’t, in any way, intended to be a diss track by writing, “i wasn’t bothered by a few lines in a (magnificent) song and wrote a diss track about it.”

i think people are missing the point of skin by sabrina carpenter. in the song she’s validating Olivia’s feelings through multiple lyrics but i think the ‘im happy and you hate it’ and the ‘you can try to get under my skin’ is towards the haters since she’s been getting so much

According to Carpenter, she used the song as a way to express her emotions concerning multiple things spanning across the past year. Carpenter shows an emotional and vulnerable side of herself by opening up about her struggles of people and things getting under her skin, which she acknowledges is something she is working on.

Carpenter wants fans and listeners to know there wasn’t any malicious intent in the song, as she was just sharing her perspective since many people didn’t consider it. She ends by hoping the cycle of hate doesn’t continue because no one deserves to be treated poorly. She appreciates her fans and loves them all for supporting her.
