Tian Richards will be appearing in the new season of Nancy Drew as Tom Swift, gaining a potential spin-off of the series based on his appearance.

Nancy Drew is a mystery and drama series that first premiered on The CW in 2019. The second season of Nancy Drew aired on January 20. The show is based on the classic Nancy Drew book series everyone knows and loves. Following the book, the TV series is about the teen detective, Nancy Drew, played by Kennedy McMann along with other characters from the book’s series: Leah Lewis as George Fan, Maddison Janizani as Bess Marvin, Tunji Kasim as Ned Nickerson, and Scott Wolf as Carson Drew.

Actor Tian Richards is announced to play the brand new role of Tom Swift, a gay and inventive character, in the new season. Richards will be introduced to the series in episode 15 when he appears during Nancy’s supernatural investigation.

Richards will continue to play the role of Tom in the potential spin-off series, Tom Swift, that is currently in the works at the CW network.  The spin-off will follow his life as a character in the sci-fi world after the unexpected disappearance of Tom’s father.

The creative mind behind the Nancy Drew series, Noga Landau told Entertainment Weekly about the new addition to the series. Landau states, “We’re excited about bringing a story that has both sci-fi but also Blackness, and joy, and pride, and love, and romance”.
